So where do you start? Do you pick a dress first and then pick a place to get married? Or do you do it in the reverse order, deciding where the magical moment will take place and then figuring out what kind of dress will fit the occasion? Whichever way you decide to go, here are a few pointers on how to make sure that your dress and wedding accessories match the venue in which you are getting married. The following list is by no means exhaustive, but rather a sample of some ideas of venues. If you have any suggestions as to other venues and the themes that match those venues, please feel free to sound off in the comments section.
Church : Typically getting married in a church will signify tradition to some extent. Whether you are choosing to uphold this tradition in order to feel, and grow, a sense of connection between the two families, or you are just doing it to appease family members, remember to try and have fun with it. Church weddings characteristically follow the “something” rule, that is, some borrowed, something blue, something old, something new. Something borrowed represents the idea that friends and family are there for support on the big day. Something blue is a sign of purity as blue has traditionally represented the idea of purity. Something old represents the fact that the bride wants to reach across generations and remain connected to family roots. Something new represents, the new beginning of the marriage that is about to take place.
Hotel: A hotel wedding is frequently seen as a grand and lavish affair. Rooms are more spacious, with higher ceilings and enough space to afford more guests than the average wedding. In this case the bride will want to make her best attempt at standing out while respecting the luxurious environment surrounding her, this would call for bigger dresses and extravagant jewelry adorning her and her bridesmaids.
Country Club: A country club wedding is a classy event. Steeped in traditions and opulence, country club members are accustomed to a certain level of high class occasions occurring at the club. Simple and classy, yet beautiful styles will rule the day at a wedding such as this.
Beach: If you have decided to get married at a beach, it is probably fair to say that you enjoy a laid back style. No fuss is needed here, you just want to have fun and celebrate with friends and family. This is going to call for as much casual wear as you prefer. Whether you prefer you and your bridesmaids to have your hair worn down with no shoes, or you wish to sport something slightly more sophisticated is completely your choice.
Vineyards and/or Parks: A vineyard or a park is the perfect way to commune with nature and show off your eclectic side on the day of your wedding. This affords you and your girls the chance to indulge in more modern looks, possibly with brighter colors that will match the colorful surroundings.
No matter where you decide to get married, or what you choose to wear, make sure that you remember to have fun on your big day.
