If you'll be spending a lot of time on grass or sand, choose low, broad heels like those found on the Grace Lilla Wedding Shoe. Slender heels tend to sink in and get dirty.

Choosing a style with a small platform like the Grazia Marilyn Wedding Shoe can give you extra lift without sacrificing comfort or confidence. This heel is also easy to walk in because of the slightly broad base.

Choosing a Heel Height

There can be a lot wrapped up in the decision to go "high" or "low". Some brides say they will only wear flats because they don't want to tower over their fiancé while others insist on wearing the most sky-high heel they can find!

What's right for you? Here are a few things Lori likes to take into consideration when she helps brides choose.

Formality

There is a certain formality in a high heel and if you're having a very casual backyard or beach wedding I like something with a low heel - under about 1 1/2". In these settings you might also think about choosing a heel with a wide base so you don't sink into the grass or sand.

Comfort Level

When brides tell me they never wear high heels but they want to wear them on their wedding day, I put up the red flag. I think you should be absolutely confident walking down the aisle and that may mean going a little lower than you like. In the end I think you're going to appreciate feeling beautiful and confident.

Your Height

You know they say opposites attract and sometimes that means height. Your fiancé may be short while you're tall or the other way around. If it's important to you that you're "evened out" then by all means use your shoes to do it. But I don't recommend that you sacrifice comfort and confidence just to appear taller.

Measuring Heel Height

There is no industry standard for measuring heel height, but at ModelBride we measure every shoe with the same method so you can be confident that the heel height you want is the one you'll get.

We start by placing the shoe on a level surface and placing a ruler behind the shoe. Then, we simply measure up to where the seam of the footbed and heel meet.

If you have a favorite pair of heels at home measure the heel according to our method and then look for one that is similar for your "big day" shoe.
